It is fabric glued to a board. Too much liquid or the wrong chemical and the glue lets go — then it sags, and it does not go back.

Aggressive chemicals and soaking dissolve headliner adhesive. So every headliner is assessed before anything is applied, cleaned in spots rather than flooded, and if it is not safe to treat we say so rather than risk it.
Age, material and how well the fabric is still bonded are checked before anything touches it.
Marks are treated individually with as little moisture as possible.
If a mark will not come out safely, you hear that before we try something that could cause sagging.
